Visitor restrictions due to COVID
We have been inundated in recent weeks with advice enquiries about visiting restrictions in maternity services put in place by Trusts in response to the pandemic. In England, these decisions are made by Trusts not Government. Maternity providers have a duty to ensure that restrictions are proportionate. Whilst controlling the virus is important, providers also need to take into account the harm caused by the restrictions themselves.
You may wish to use the template letters/emails below to challenge current visiting restrictions at your local Trust:

The Governments of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have directed Boards/Trusts to relax visiting restrictions in some areas of maternity services. For more information see our Q and A.
